Seven  Sundays (2017)

2h 8min   |   Comedy/Drama   |  Cathy Garcia Molina | PG

A story of a family who got back together due to an alleged "problem" that their father is facing.

Summary

The plot begins when a father of four informs his four children that he will die soon. This father is a widow who misses his grown-up children and feels lonely. The siblings agree to spend time with one another on Sundays after knowing about their father's illness. Despite their disagreements and personal concerns, they decide to do it for their father.

Every Sunday, they spend time with their father; everything seems to go exactly to plan. They talk about memories from their childhood and adolescence. They get to know each other more as they spend more time together. Each sibling has their own issues that the other does not aware of. Allan, the eldest son, and Brian, the second son, discuss Brian's problems.

Suddenly, the father receives a call from his doctor, informing him that he made a mistake in his diagnosis. The father does not disclose his proper diagnosis to his children until the eldest son discovers the truth. They have a conversation where the father explains why he chose not to disclose the truth. Allan, the eldest son, shares his views about the issue and persuades his father to tell the truth at their next reunion.

Dex, the youngest son, learns of his sister's marriage issues right at the start of the get-together. Dex's problems are discovered by the entire family, who has a confrontation with Brian. Cha's problems are also revealed.

Their father's proper condition is exposed throughout the confrontation, which surprises Brian and Cha. This results in an attack of hurtful words directed toward the siblings and the resurfacing of old wounds.

After a few days, Allan apologizes to Brian, and the two men make amends. They both take advantage of the opportunity to apologize to Dex. They all went to Cha's place to pay her a visit. And look into her situation. They all meet their father at their mother's grave and express their gratitude for his efforts for the family. They work through their problems and deal with their upset feelings.

The movie ends with the reopening of Allan's business, some enjoyable events, and a dance showdown.

This movie is unpredictable, unimaginative, and gets in its dramatic and comedic moments overly sensationalized. The film exaggerates both the emotionally heavy and funny proceedings of its script to solicit tears and chuckles, which to be fair, are mostly earned, but sometimes fall in the wrong places. Admirably, emotional segments of the film are almost equally distributed to its five leads, each one given enough moment to make their characters shine. In addition, we recommend this movie because this reminds us that whatever and whenever futures that we have, we should never forget our families specially when if we already have our own family, never forget your parents. They are the reasons of whatever we have so far. Also, having siblings are beautiful blessings not only for our parents but also for us and we should learn to appreciate them, love them, forgive them when they hurt you. Help them when they need us. Yes, we have friends that help us in times that we need them. But our Family is always there for us in times of needs.
